8"x10" oil on RayMar panel, painted en plein air, alla prima on 3-24-09 (completed around 3:15) - $85 including shipping - This is the first time I've been out painting en plein air in a long, long time...well, since November anyway. I usually paint during morning hours, but conditions haven't been right for awhile...but this particular afternoon seemed perfect. The more I painted, the more the clouds rolled in. Puddles on the gravel walkway danced in the changing light, so Mr. Coker's chimney and the oak tree's old and new foliage had to relent.

Chimborazo Park # 1

This is my first post thanks to BJ's kind invitation. Last week I discoverd this neat green roof tucked between several buildings high up on a hill while exploring the lower canals here in Richmond. Here is the result. I'll add this is my first painting in 20 years and my first plein air in more than 40 years.

Another painting I did at Edenlawn Plantation. I had to sit under my umbrella it was raining when I painted this. Its 8 x 10 oil, $200.

Daily Painting 804 Palms at the Backus Museum

This looks a bit different than my usual style because I took a workshop this weekend that fellow artist George Love put on. She was teaching about glazing and so we just used brushes. We started out with a black and white acrylic painting and then when that dried we added the oil paints in colors. It was super to try a different technique. We were outside so I did the three palms I could see in the park next to the museum.

I had a very busy week, Art Mundo put on all these demos and workshops friday and saturday. I took this workshop and one on bookbinding and another on botanical printing. Then I gave an oil painting demo saturday, I'll post that tomorrow. It was a whole lot of fun and I hope we get to do it all again.

Friday evening I went to the Gallery 14 reception in Vero, I have three paintings in their Small is Big showing this month. Thursday was my reception at the Molly House,that was lovely and I sold a couple of paintings.

February 19 I was fortunate to paint along with plein air painters in Sarasota. Jacq was down from New York to teach a two day workshop. I wasn't able to take her class but happy to meet her. She is the founder of IPAP. I hope she enjoyed her stay with her sister on Longboat Key.

Daily Painting 799 Heron in the Azaleas

I did this as a demo painting at Heathcote Botanical Gardens the other day, I think I got a few people interested in using a painting knife. Its plein air, alla prima and oil. I did change the bird, Heathcote has a wooden heron there and I made him look like a live one. Its 8 x 10 $300.

I did this at Heathcote Botanical Gardens here in Fort Pierce at their wonderful paintout the other day. They fed us a lovely breakfast and lunch and it was lots of fun meeting some different artists and seeing old friends too. This area is a bit hidden in a nice warm spot, it was a little chilly when I got there and this is always cozy here. Its oil, 8 x 10 $200.

About This Painting:
This is the first painting I did last Tuesday, in Fort Pierce. I had painted in some of the sea grapes while I was there, and then decided to add more when I got home. I may have over done it!!!! But I like it. I also added the pelicans, as they were everywhere!

Daily Painting 797 Its Me or Marty Little Jim's Bait and Tackle

I am naming the painting "Its Me or Marty" or "Little Jim's Bait and Tackle" The guy by the truck was walking towards us so I painted him in, thinking that spot in the painting needed something. He came over to look and I asked him who he thought it was and he said "its me or Marty." Below is the man and the truck and above is the whole painting. Its plein air, alla prima, it was a beautiful, breezy day. My group of painters, the Plein Air Painters of the Treasure Coast will be painting there again this tuesday. Its a fun place to paint with lots of things going on, boats and birds and interesting people. The painting is 8 x 10, oil, $200.

Went to Fort Pierce today and painted with Lori McNamara's plein air group. This is the second of two I did. It was alla prima, fast, loose and all palette knife. Too much fun. Fresh air, cool breeze, and warm sun, It was a perfect day!

This in Fly Tennessee painted on my laptop box. Some call them pochade but I like calling it a laptop. The Sun Drop machine on the sawmill workshop's porch caught my eye. Plus I like Sundrop soda.

I would like to know what this plant is before I name the painting. I saw it at Oxbow Ecocenter Park today. There is a photo of the plant below. It has no leaves, those are some tree leaves in the photo. Its 6 x 8 inches, $150.

Winter Blooms, Bogainvillaeas

"Winter Blooms"

These bougainvillaeas are blooming in my front yard. So striking against all the brown grass and leafless trees. It was windy and I didn't stay out long, but I really enjoyed it.

This is my first chance to do any plein air painting in months. After my husband got so sick I only stole an hour here and there while he was sleeping. So good to have him back! He is about 80 % back to his old self. I should say his new self. He is so grateful and opens up so much more often now.

Sandra paints Alla Prima

 
January has been a little too chilly for Sandra to get out side so she opted to paint in the cosmetics department at Hamilton Place Mall's Belk Department Store at their Senior Expo. "I received a favorable response from the manager and employees". It was announced over the intercom. The announcement was that Artist Sandra Babb is demostrating her craft.
Over all it was a pleasant experience lasting from 10 am til 1 pm. I may have painted for an hour total time. The Events Coordinator has invited us back and I'm game to try it again. Note that I put the sign in the painting---"At Your Service." This little study sold and I slipped it into a Belk's plastic bag with tissue paper from the Chanel Department. Fun to go home with the new owner. It is a pastel and I hope she made it to the frameshop intact.
