1587 Kapok Tree at the Causeway Park Plein Air Alla Prima

The kapok trees are in full bloom at the Causeway Park here in Ft. Pierce.  I had fun painting here today, this is the smaller tree, there is a really big one too.  I think its so cool that they bloom in November. The sky was totally overcast when I got there, then it cleared with almost no clouds.  Its been clearing and clouding all day.

Went to see the aquariums at the Smithsonian there, they are very interesting as always with lots of nice fish and other creatures.  Texture close up below.

Painting is 8 x 10 inches, oil on masonite $250.

1585 Perfect Day at Jetty Park Plein Air Alla Prima

I had a great time painting with my friends today, it was beautiful out at the Jetty park.  The fisherman was there, he left shortly after I started painting.  I hope I didn't make him nervous!

He was the last thing to be painted so I had to do him from memory.  I am thinking he wasn't catching much anyhow there was a zillion little fish swimming next to the rocks, huge schools of them.  So whatever he had for bait probably wasn't as nice eating as them.  Every now and then some big fish would chase the little ones and there would be big splashes and commotion.  They were all gone by 12:30, about when I left too.

The painting is 8 x 10 inches, oil on masonite. $250.

1578 Under the Oaks at the Savannas, Plein Air Alla Prima

I painted this today out at the Savanna's Recreational area by Midway road.  Nice day to be in the shade, its cooling down a little but its still pretty warm.

Very pretty out, I saw a lot of places there I would like to paint but no shade to get under.  There are some nice ponds with wild white water lilies and the Florida holly is everywhere.  Pretty pink, white and yellow wild flowers in the grass.  They haven't mowed around there lately and the flowers love it.

The painting is oil on masonite, 12 x 16 inches.  $300.

1575 High Winds Plein Air Alla Prima

I did this awhile ago, in April.  It was during the Souvenirs of Downtown paintout.  From life, it was starting to rain which felt pretty nice as I was getting warm.

I am just getting around to posting it, the planning board has been having meetings about this spot, its a park next to the Episcopal church by the river.  The church is talking about doing something else with it, not sure what, its pretty confusing to me.  I don't really understand politics that well.  As far as I can tell it probably won't stay the same.  Whether it will be nicer or worse I don't know.  I do like it the way it is.  I don't know if I will want to paint it again if they turn it into a tall building or baseball diamond or put fences up.

There was some talk about a dock out into the river which would be nice. I hope the palms and banyan tree can be left alone.

The painting is 8 x10 inches oil on masonite.  It is in a plain oak frame which is optional, I will sell it without the frame too.  The shadow from the frame can be seen on the right.  $400.

1561 Blue Cypress Lake Plein Air Alla Prima

I did this one back in March, finally getting around to posting it!  Its a fairly long drive from here to Blue Cypress Lake and it was already getting hot out.  It was hard to find a good view that kept me in the shade.  I think it would be a better place to go in the winter.  I would really like to take a boat ride on the lake, would probably be able to see a lot of interesting spots then.

Those are cypress trees, they grow right in the water like that.  The moss hanging from the branches is Spanish moss.

The painting is 8 x 10 inches, oil on masonite, $250.

1547 Oak at Round Island Plein Air Alla Prima

Nice day at Round Island today, saw some manatees, I see them almost every time I go there.

1544 Azalea Season Plein Air Alla Prima

My plein air group had a lovely treat today, we got to paint at my friend Carolyn's house.  Its west of town in an area that looks a lot like you are in Georgia instead of Florida.  Lots of oaks and long needle pines and all the azaleas.  It felt like I was on a mini vacation.

The painting is 8 x 10 inches, oil on masonite.  $250.

1542 Farmer Brown's Potting Shed Plein Air Alla Prima

I painted here on Tuesday, just getting around to posting it tonight.  I had a lot of fun painting it, I kept finding more little details to put into the painting.  The plants on the left are pineapples and there is a papaya tree in the center.

After I painted I was taken on a tour of the garden and got to sample some kale, nasturtiums, violas and various other vegies.  I have had kale cooked before and didn't like it but I liked it raw.   Bought some nice rhubarb, lettuce and Swiss Chard.  Its all pretty much eaten up already.  I made a rhubarb crunch, there is just one little piece of that left and a bit of the lettuce.

The painting is oil on masonite, 8 x 10 inches, $250.

1540 Spring Vista at White City Park Plein Air Alla Prima

I painted this today at White City Park, I had a good time there like always.  Lots of birds and big fat squirrels.  The squirrels are very tame, they wanted some handouts.  I saw a lot of fish, they were up near the surface sunning themselves.

The tree in the back is an oak,  it was golden in the sun with its new leaves and blossoms.

The painting is 8 x 10 inches, oil on masonite. $200.

1539 Morning at the Brown Family Farm Plein Air Alla Prima

I had a nice time painting here yesterday, its a lovely place to visit with pretty scenery and nice animals and birds.  I got an enormous cabbage and some nice oranges, they let you sample fruits or vegies too.  All their fruits and vegetables are organic and they also have chicken and duck eggs.  I will be going there to paint again.

Very foggy early yesterday, the farm is on 1871 Jenkins road,  I went right past could hardly see the numbers.

The painting is 8 x 10 inches, oil on masonite. $200.

1537 Misty Waters Plein Air Alla Prima

I did this Tuesday at the Fort Pierce Inlet State park and just got around to posting it.  This was right when the fog drifted through, the opposite shore is faintly visible still.  A minute or two later it totally disappeared and then a few minutes later emerged again through the mist.

1536 Misty Day at the Beach Plein Air Alla Prima

Very lovely day today at the Inlet State Park. Not too hot or cold, just right.  About when I finished this painting, that hazy cloud in the background passed over us for a few minutes, everything was foggy, it was like being in a cloud.  I don't get that experience very often here.  I loved the drive through the park, the sun was shining on many dew bejeweled spiderwebs making them glow in the light.

The path leads to the ocean.

The painting is 8 x 10 inches oil on Masonite.  $250.

1535 Morning at the Inlet Plein Air Alla Prima

It was a beautiful morning today at the Inlet State Park.  I left out the buildings on the opposite shore.  It was a funny morning, started out foggy and cold, I got to the park and it looked like this.  Painted just a little while and it all clouded over again.  When I left it was clearing up.

The painting is oil on masonite, 8 x 10 inches.  $250.

1533 On the Sandspit Indian River Plein Air Alla Prima

I painted this painting this morning, the last painting was looking toward the south and this one is looking north.  I left out the buildings in the distance and the bridge and docks.  The bird was there, I think he is a tricolor heron.  I was concerned we might get rained out, the weather report wasn't too promising.  It started out very clear and just a few minutes later these clouds blew in, moving fast.  All was well though, it didn't rain till late afternoon.

I was on the same spit of land as the bird, I was wondering if the tide would be coming in but I got lucky again it was going out.  There is some very shallow water to the left of the bird, that was gone when I packed up to go home.

The painting is 8 x 10 inches oil on masonite, $250.

1532 Cloudy Morning at the Indian River Plein Air Alla Prima

I painted this last week, finally got around to posting it, its been busy! It started out looking pretty gray out but the clouds started blowing away as the morning went on.  There was a little blue heron there so I put him in, he was very tame, not afraid of us at all.

I painted it down by the river in front of the Old Fort Park.  There is a house on the point of land in the distance but I left it out, this is the way it was down there when I was growing up.  Its 8 x 10 inches, oil on masonite.  $200.
