Hopin' and Dreamin' by BJ Wright

8"x10" oil on RayMar panel, painted en plein air, alla prima, on Saturday June 19th (completed at 10:40am)...$85 including shipping...This was my first time at the Dalton Saturday Market, so I didn't know what to expect. I found friendly folks selling produce, plants, and various hand-made (well made) items. The gazebo caught my eye as I set up my easel. Light always changes quickly, so it's a challenge to get shadows in their proper places. The gentleman wearing a hat and red shirt seemed oblivious to the mill of people and sounds of the childrens' zylophone. He was "hopin' and dreamin'".

Pinky's Parlor Reception

No, I'm not pointing a gun. All the furniture in this section of Pinky's Parlor is cyprus wood. Frankie, owner of Pinky's Parlor, purchased several paintings including Durinda's, Phyllis', and mine. We were happy not to bring wet paintings home. A delightful weekend thanks to Generations Gallery and Indian Springs and of course Frankie who also makes delicious chicken salad. Better stop on in!

En plein Air painting of girl jumping rope Sculpture at the Whimsical Garden in Indian Springs, GA

A great day was spent on Memorial Day Week end Saturday in Flovilla, GA at Indian Springs painting with 11 other artists. This was a Plein Air Georgia event sponsored by Generations Gallery who were very hospitable and I can't wait to return to paint again and in fact we went back on Sunday to paint the bridge to the State Park.

Grace Episcopal Church

June 8th six Civic Arts League members painted outside at the Grace Church from 9 til the storm around lunch time. I skittered around trying to find what "spoke to me". Of course I wanted to do the whole church building. The Church is gracious to hose the Civic here the first Monday of each month. I've had two art exhibits here in the past.
Back to that day I walked all around and finally settled under a huge tree to find that a screw had fallen out of the Soltek easel leg. I thought I would set up on my lawn chair but Carolyn Cannon always comes to my rescue. She had loaned an easel to Jo and it took more of my time to get it out of the back of Jo's van. At any rate I think I got a good view of the setting and the building. I could hardly see the building for the tree and later added some detail of window frames from a photo that Jo sent to everyone. I think it works okay now. I do wish it had more life to it but that's what happens when I tweak too much in the studio.

Afternoon Storm...Maybe by BJ Wright

8"x10" oil on RayMar panel, painted en plein air on May 31st (completed at 2:00pm)...$85 including shipping...Instead of painting the seashore scenes I'd planned, I painted this hazy, lazy afternoon looking across a wildlife sanctuary in Nags Head, NC. Each afternoon it looked like rain clouds would roll in, but rain came only once briefly.
