Linda Blondheim Art Studio Landscapes Of The South

Gouache on Index Paper

I paint with a lot of different mediums amd am always looking for a good medium for location work. I did this miniature in gouache and it handles very nicely with good detail, true color, no darkening like acrylic, and no bad smell like casein. I was impressed with it for all of the above reasons. An easy medium for plein air work. Sorry this is blurry. It is so small, it was hard to photograph.

Oh Linda, you are trouble! ;) Now I want to try gouache too! I have a number of artist buddies who are beginners, scared of oil's fumes. They are using acrylics and getting dark paintings. It sounds like just the thing for them. Its a charming painting, I had no idea it was that small, it would look super big too.

Lori,

It works well, but it is a flat surface with no sheen at all. I am still experimenting and want to try doing a gouache on panel and see what it looks like varnished. I'll lt you know. I really like it so far.

It should varnish fine I would think, I have varnished regular watercolors that were done on Yupo.

If you don't varnish them, they can get damp from the humidity and sweat themselves off the yupo.

I have sprayed gouaches with clear krylon acrylic. The gouache I did of the purple striped girl did OK after spraying it.

C,
Thanks for that info. Do you mount and put the sprayed gouache in a frame without glass?

Love,
Linda

I have not mounted them without glass. I bet the matte acrylic spray would work well also.
