In mid April a hard frost killed much of the trees' new Spring growth. The leaves turned to almost Fall colors. The grass is still early Spring green so the color combinations are at first startling, but quite beautiful. No pigment put to canvas nor image captured on film can portray the beauty of the foothills of North Georgia.

This covered bridge is on property once used as a hospital during the Civil War. Ghost stories are told of spirits roaming the meadow as the fog rises.

Foggy Morning Bridge by BJ Wright
8" x 10" original oil painted en plein air on canvas covered hardboard -

As the sun rose over the mountains, the fog was lifting, colors were changing and I painted - oh so fast. The light in this little North Georgia park has a special glow. Capturing it is indeed a challenge. For a closer view of brush strokes, click on the image.

South Carolina Low Country Marsh
This painting is from a plein air painting trip I took last fall to Hunting Island State Park. This wonderful park is on the South Carolina coast and has wonderful beaches, forests and marshes. For this painting I set my easel up on the boardwalk that leads into the marsh. The afternoon light just intensified the wonderful colors of the marsh grasses. I will be going back to the South Carolina coast to paint at the end of the month and I can't wait!
