Rambling River by Jennifer Young

After a summer break (of sorts) I'm getting back to a more regular painting schedule this week. To kick it off, I'll share a little plein air painting I did last Thursday at James River. I painted this at the foot of the Lee Bridge, near the entrance to Belle Isle section of the James River Park System in my town, Richmond, VA.

Queen's Mountain by Shanti Marie

The last days of summer have finally gone, It took awhile but the fall colors are here. Who doesn't love the beautiful variety of color. This watercolor is really of a big hill but I named it "Queen's Mountain" because it deserves a regal name when the trees are turning this golden color.

The trees are still showing the effects of the late hard frost here in N. Georgia. But the grasses are blooming and the clover smells sweet. There's just so much color in this meadow and in the trees beyond! There aren't the proper pigments on a palette to express Nature's beauty this Spring.

In mid April a hard frost killed much of the trees' new Spring growth. The leaves turned to almost Fall colors. The grass is still early Spring green so the color combinations are at first startling, but quite beautiful. No pigment put to canvas nor image captured on film can portray the beauty of the foothills of North Georgia.

Early Spring Fog by BJ Wright

As the fog lifted to reveal the North Georgia hills, it was a perfect morning for painting. The light was incredible !!

I chose a canvas pretoned in lemon yellow, hoping to catch the glow and slight chill in the air.

My palette colors were lemon yellow, cad red light, alizarin crimson, ultra blue, white and just one speck of ivory black.
