I painted this at 12:30, down on my neighbor's dock. The wind was so strong it was pushing my hand so I can't take all the credit. The title is from the weather report, this was done around high tide. The water is going into the reeds, usually there is a sand beach. Its 5 x 7, oil all painting knife, done from life or plein air, alla prima, or in one go. Click the picture to see all the juicy texture.

Overcome, Impressionism, Palms, by Fawn McNeill Barr
Went out with the Treasure Coast Plein Air Painters group yesterday. It was fun. We were painting at White City Park.
When I saw this little palm hanging out, I had to paint it. I love these palms because you know at one time they were blown over. The growth pattern tells me that at one time this tree started to turn and grow back up even after it was blown down. It reminds me of all the times we have to change course in life, and overcome hardships. We don't have to let things become an excuse to destroy us. Just like this tree is more interesting because it kept going, so are we.

Daily Painting 359 SOLD Plein Air On the North Fork of the Saint Lucie River
SOLD Its oil, knife and brush. 8 x 10. Its plein air or from life, the first plein air of the season with the Plein Air Painters of the Treasure Coast. I had a nice turn-out, about 6 of us were there. This one gives me a lot of memories, its by the boat ramp of White City Park. My dad and I would put our boat in here and head one way or the other down the river. We would see lots of turtles, birds, and gators. It was a lot of fun. $300.

Nashville City Sketch
Camp at Fort Keys by BJ Wright - SOLD
It was early on the first day of battle. Tents were set up at Fort Keys and campfires were smouldering. Reenactors were beginning to stir, packing away night equipment, getting ready for the afternoon battle.

Tampa Bay Plein Air Painters at Studio Waltz
Several painters from the Tampa Bay group have been invited to paint en plein air during Studio Waltz (its 15th year!) on Saturday, October 6. We'll be painting from 10:00 to 5:00 at the first stop of the tour, Coachman Park at the Clearwater Library, 100 N. Osceola Ave. in Clearwater FL. Studio Waltz is a wonderful event that gives the public a chance to tour studios of various artists in the Clearwater/Dunedin area. Maps of the open studio locations will be available at the library that day. See you there!

Tuesday paintouts from the Plein Air Painters of the Treasure Coast
This tuesday, September 25 and next October 2, we will paint at White City Park which is south of Ft. Pierce. From US1 you take CR712 or Midway Road. Go West on Midway Road till you get to the park on your left. Its a lovely little park, with a windy road that goes to the North Fork of the St. Lucie River. I try to get there around 9:30 and stay till noon or later. I drive a red Jeep Cherokee so you can look for that and find me.
I am looking forward to painting with you all again!
Happy Painting! Lori

At Istokpoga, Alla Prima, botanical by Fawn McNeill Barr
This is the third painting I did Tuesday out at Lake Istokpoga (iss-ta-po-ga). This small painting has a very simple composition, yet it works well. I was very happy with the lighting and the movement. I did it alla prima (all in one session).

This is the second painting from Tuesday morning. I added the great blue heron when I got home. (Click on the image to see him up close.) He had been sitting at the end of the dock most of the morning, then he just took off!

Fort Keys to Taylors Ridge by BJ Wright
It was overcast on Thursday before the Battle of Tunnel Hill. I was set up at Fort Keys to paint the old shed and cornfield which play a big role in the reenactment. Several folks from Mississippi had just put up their tent in preparation for the battle to come. The meadow was peaceful under the early September sky; the trees showed signs of Autumn colors soon to come.

I headed north of here, toward Sebring yesterday morning. (This lake is pronounced iss-ta-poe-ga.) It was so nice out that I stayed until lunch time. I did three paintings, which I will be posting over the next couple of days.
The wind was kind to keep me cool. There were lots of trees for shade, and so many birds posing for me, that I had to keep stopping for more pictures! What a great morning.
I added the birds after I got home, I just couldn't leave them out! smile.

Thanks to our SPAP members !
Just saying a big "Thank You!" to all our SPAP members for posting their original plein air paintings on this blog. We now have 14 members: 8 from GA, 3 from FL, 2 from TN, and 1 from SC.
We have received comments from all over the US - and from Ireland, Canada, New Zealand, and England just to name a few.
It's interesting to note that we have been documenting the various weather (especially climate) changes taking place in our corner of the US. Be sure to check out paintings documenting the water level decrease in a large Florida lake, the foliage damage to trees, and strange weather conditions affecting skies.
