I'm not going to forget this one. Yesterday, Cooper my dog and I got caught in a nasty lighting and thunderstorm on a hill over looking the James River. I did have a small umbrella and was able to finish by staying with it a few more minutes. No way was I leaving, the river surface was absolutely luminous. I didn't have time to breakdown before taking shelter so my little 12x12 suffered more than 15 minutes of hard rain with no apparent damage. It makes you rethink your sanity and gear.

This is a very moving painting. I feel the air. You have exhibited a lot of control in keeping the colors subdued even if they were there. Many times it's not easy to begin adding more intense color.

I meant to say "it's not easy avoiding more intense colors even if they aren't there when there's a wonderful light".
Great preserverance in finishing up this lovely piece.

Thanks Sandra, at many levels it was a great day. I did a larger studio version the following day using a fresh memory, the field study and photos as a guide. The small one clearly had the magic with it's soft multi layered tonal quality.The studio piece is OK the little one is a jewel.
