Sweetwater Creek State Park
I painted at Sweetwater Creek on Saturday. Two pretty different "looks". Both are 11x14" watercolors.
This vignette was trying to capture the Mountain Laurel in bloom --

It was pretty tough hauling both my mother's and my painting gear 1.5 miles through the rocky, hilly terrain to reach the ruins but it was a wonderful day.

Congratulations, BJ!
B.J. hasn't mentioned this, but she was the focus of an article in the Chattanooga Times FreePress Monday about Red Clay Park with a photo of her painting on site. (See her earlier post about painting there) Way to go, B.J.! Sandra Babb and Jo Thomas were also mentioned, but weren't on location just yet.

This tribute painting was inspired by two Gold Star moms that I met while painting en plein aire at the Beirut Memorial, Camp Lejeune, NC.

"Confederate Camp" plein air
Had a great time last Saturday at a local Living History event... this plein air was the result. A bit of a challenge with the wind... the flag was really blowing that steady...

Sorry about my absence... have been extremely busy but hope to have more plein air work to post soon...

Eternal Flame at Red Clay by BJ Wright
Today was windy at Red Clay State Park. I had to tape my canvas to the easel so it didn't fly away! This painting isn't quite finished yet - needs some tweaking here and there. The painting on my easel is standing in the shade, so it appears darker than the trees. The subject is the eternal flame located on a knoll overlooking the council house. I may return in a few days, painting in hand, to finish.
Red Clay is a wonderful place to visit. It's quiet - a great place to get away from the rest of the world.

This little church is in Tunnel Hill, GA. There are buildings around the church but I chose to leave them out of the painting. The church has been there for probably 100 years or more.

Winter in Spring Colors
This painting was done with yellow underpainting making it happy spring colors on a wintry day. It makes me think of Easter with the yellows and purples.
Painting in progress
Plein air painting of artist friend doing watercolors near a large wall hanging by another artist friend.
Done at Garden Vignette's Open House for the Civic Arts League.
Two underpaintings
These are two underpainting techniques I sometimes use. One is of values and the other is complimentaries.I like the way the underpainting shows through the final stages and helped me paint quicker and covers the white of the canvas. Recently I learned to use bold colors in a workshop with Maggie Price. Can't wait to try it outside.
The Pinnacle Open House Art Show Case
A & D Ranch, 2

Not yet available.
This painting will be available in a few weeks.
This is another sample painting for a larger canvas later. I will be doing three large canvases based on the plein air studies.
Did this about a week ago, out at the ranch house that I am doing murals for. Just went early and took it all in.
I enjoyed going out and taking in all the fresh air in the morning sun. It turned cold that morning with a cold wind, 50 degrees or so. For us that is chilly!
Email me for purchase availability.
