Sandra at paint-out in Gainesville, GA
Sandra and BJ were in Gainesville, GA, on Saturday May 19th, participating in the "Paint the Town" event sponsored by the Quinlan Arts Center.
In this photo, Sandra is painting on the Brenau University campus. Gainesville has many unique historical sites, and Victorian and neoclassical revival structures along its broad tree-lined streets.
The paint-out was well organized and featured an artists' reception at day's end, complete with live music and a delicious meal - all held on the historic city square.
There are plans for another paint-out this fall.

daily painting 223 Smoke Haze over the Indian River at Old Fort Park, Fort Pierce Plein Air Alla Prima
Today the weather was very odd, I think I caught the colors dead on in this painting. The sun stayed red and then orange for hours this morning. There were huge fires in central Florida and the smoke must be covering the whole state. The air was nice though, not too hot.
Lots and lots of love bugs, I have developed a method of getting them off my paintings with no damage. I flick them off with the tip of my palette knife. Sometimes the bugs themselves are unharmed and are able to continue on their way. A love bug is about twice the size of a mosquito, they are always in pairs, stuck together by their behinds. During this time of the year they fly about in thousands and expire upon automobile windshields and grills. Cars can get so covered they can overheat and expire as well. You have to scrub and scrub to get them off, a terrible end to the romance.
The painting is $100, its 5 x 7, oil, knife and brush.

Irises at Brookgreen Garden, SC
Here is another plein air painting from my South Carolina trip. On Friday afternoon it looked like rain so instead of setting up to paint we decided to visit Brookgreen Gardens. Are we ever glad we did! They were so wonderful! We went back the next day to paint. I could have painted all day at this lily pond filled with Irises and turtles!!!
Above the Meadow by by BJ Wright
8" x 10" original oil (en plein air, alla prima) on canvas covered hardboard - $85 including shipping -
The trees are still showing the effects of the late hard frost here in N. Georgia. But the grasses are blooming and the clover smells sweet. There's just so much color in this meadow and in the trees beyond! There aren't the proper pigments on a palette to express Nature's beauty this Spring.

Daily Painting 218 Heathcote Botanical Gardens Flowery Miniature Gardens Plein Air Alla Prima
Here is today's, this pot of flowers is about 20 feet away from yesterday's flowers. I thought the two made a nice set so put them into some digital frames together below. This one is 5 x 7 and oil as well and $100. It has petunias and geraniums and some other flowers growing in it. Just for fun I provided a detail of the paint so you can see the texture. You can click on the photos to make them bigger.

South Carolina Low Country Plein Air
I am back from a wonderful painting trip to the South Carolina coast. Jayne, Holly & I had the best time exploring, painting, laughing....we agree that we couldn't be a better match and we look forward to many painting trips together. As promised here is the first installment of my plein air paintings I did. We only painted one day, we explored and took photos the first day. I did manage to paint 1o...and I know Jayne and Holly did several as well. We were quite productive! This is a view of the freshwater marsh at Huntington Beach State Park near Pawley's Island, SC.
Daily Painting 215 Iris at Heathcote Botanical Gardens Plein Air Alla Prima
Spring Mountain Shadows by BJ Wright - SOLD
9" x 12" original oil painted en plein air alla prima - $108 including shipping - SOLD -
The hard frost in mid-April killed much of the trees' new leaf growth in this N. Georgia area. The resulting foliage colors resemble Fall, but the grasses are new Spring green and the clover smells wonderful.
